Story of Evelyn Kebalo

Evelyn Edith Kebalo, a Metis mother of four, was sexually assaulted and strangled to death in the middle of a Winnipeg playground on April 19, 1977.

Witnesses saw the attack, but authorities were only called hours later, when the 55-year-old’s nude lifeless body was discovered at dawn.

In October, 1977, three men were arrested and charged in connection with her homicide. Just before going to trial, their defence lawyer provided alibis for the three accused. The charges were stayed and no one has since been arrested for the crime.
